These tips are handy for writing poetry, a short story or
your first novel!
-
Create an outline, to keep your thoughts and
words organized. Every great story has
three things in common; a beginning, a middle and an ending! This will help
your story stay on track and prevent your thoughts from running all over the
place.
-
Do not force yourself to write. Let the ideas and words flow naturally.
-
Recording your story using an audio device (recorder,
smart phone, etc.) may help you keep track of ideas you want to include.
-
Read your work as you write, and then read it
again! You are your first editor to catch missing words, punctuation and
misspellings.
-
Show the actions of your words, don’t tell. Writing that will affect anyone usually does
so because you can visualize the words.
Don’t just tell the reader your story begins on a sunny day, show them
that the warmth of the sun basking down on your neck felt like the soothing
touch of your lover’s hand.
