Writer's Block

I let my mind wander
Until I lost myself in this great big world,
On a road I could not pass.
For Robert Frost it was the road less traveled by
That made all the difference.
While nearby Walt Whitman tumble through Leaves of Grass.
With bitten nails, a savage mane and eyes living beyond my body-
I see
Langston Hughes lingers on A Dream Deferred
As Shirley Jackson shares The Lottery.
Not far off I see a Phenomenal Woman hovering high above an already lofty tree.
And Still I Rise mocks Dr. Angelou peering down at little old me.
In the midst of my lethargy I can hear Uncle Tom’s Children
Leading Richard Wright by the hand.
To a small horse drawn carriage waiting to my left,
Where Emily Dickinson dally with death.
I quickly move along up a winding road,
Armed with nothing more than a pen.
And in my haste I stumble across Ralph Ellison’s Invisible Man.
And it is through his eyes that I see a dead end.
Others might see a finish line.
I’ve found out more about life being lost,
Because experience is such a willing guide.

Lena Land Books Catapults Children into the Spotlight

Lena Land Books Catapults Children into the Spotlight
Two Children’s Book Titles Released to Kick Off 2013

New York (March 5, 2013) – Author Lena Williamson is releasing three new titles for 2013.  The two latest books, The First Day of School Blues and My Cat Smiles In Her Sleep is tailor made for young readers and their parents.

The First Day of School Blues was written for all of the children who are shy, a little scared and not sure what to expect when going to a new school or a new grade.  The story is also about the separation anxiety parents feel sending their children to school for the first time.

My Cat Smiles In Her Sleep is a humorous tale of how children relate and communicate with animals while nourishing their imagination.

When questioned about the direction of her latest works, author Lena Williamson is quoted as saying “I write books for children in an effort to promote literacy, creativity, and an understanding of nature and awareness, if not an affinity for animals.”

All books are available through the website at http://lenalandbooks.intuitwebsites.com or http://www.lulu.com/spotlight/lenaland

Lena Land Books releases The First Day of School Blues

Newest Release from Lena Land Books: The First Day of School Blues
For children ages 6 and under

The First Day of School Blues was written for all children who are shy, a little scared and not sure what to expect when going to a new school or a new grade.  This is also about the separation anxiety a parent feels sending their child to school for the first time.
Damon Davies is one of those kids and he wants to share his story with you!

My name is Damon Davies and today I start the first grade.
I’ve got butterflies in my tummy but mommy say’s I’m very brave.
New faces, new teachers and a new lunch lady too.
I hope they pile on the tater tots like Ms. Pearlie use to.
At lunchtime I got lucky and met a new friend.
Jumping off of the bus after the best first day of school
I see mommy waiting by the bus stop and daddy’s there too.
With a tear in her eye she smothers me with kisses
and I think I know why.
I have a secret to tell all of you kids that I bet you never knew.
On the first day of school, mommies get the blues too!

Coming 2013- When Angels Bleed

Based on actual events, When Angels Bleed is a collection of short stories that explore how the bonds of love disintegrate as a direct result of Domestic Violence.
For the couples in this book, the illusion of maintaining a stable family life for the children is nothing more than a delusion, holding everyone involved captive.
Tony and Daphne Baker are an older married couple in their fifties whose drug-fueled fights and frequent physical altercations have turned their home into a war zone.
The culmination of infidelity, broken bones and bruised egos, leave Daphne numb to the destruction of her marriage.  Her life is further complicated by an admission from her husband of over two decades that he is living with AIDS.
For Lance and Erica Stevenson, a young married couple together since high school, mental illness is the catalyst that rips their world apart.
After a blissful courtship and the birth of their first child, Erica's mental health deteriorates, putting her and her family in danger.  When Lance is badly disfigured and left fighting for his life, betrayed by his own wife, their lives and the lives of their children will never be the same.

A Generation of Oversharers

Happy New Year!

"I just hopped out of the shower.  It's cold. LOL"
"Left my house 15 minutes ago and I forgot to turn on the security alarm :{ "
"My married girlfriend is having my baby"

As I look upon 2013 with optimism and hope that the tragedies, devastation, and catastrophes that rocked 2012 are behind us along with another year, I am perplexed and overwhelmed by the constant influx of intimate information that people insist on sharing with the world via social media and the mainstream media as well.
Over the past year the most personal details of one's life have been publicized whether voluntarily or involuntarily.  Veteran government officials who have been married for decades are being outed as adulterers via email.  Suicides are being recorded or live streamed via YouTube and Ustream.
There are a generation of people who are completely comfortable sharing everything from what goes on in their bedrooms, the content of their toilets after using the restroom to incriminating themselves in crimes.
Privacy has become nothing more than a fantasy as the world is converted into a culture of 24 hour Internet junkies.  Private citizens have become society's Paparazzi as camera phones invade households like pests.
Now in my early 30s, I believe that we are leaving the planet in the hands of a generation of oversharers.  I am not certain what the impact will be so for now I just watch from the sidelines, observe and report.  I do not have an Instagram account and my Facebook page reads like the first few chapters of "America's Most Inspiring Quotes" but I am a person who cherishes my privacy.  I revel in anonymity and worship confidentiality.  In a world where the Internet is a vault of preserved achievements and failures, secrets and successes,  it baffles me that people willingly live their lives so transparently without regard for the future.

Powerful in the Present

“Life often resembles a series of hurdles that we all must leap over.  Looking to the past we see all of the obstacles we have overcome.  As we look ahead to the future, in our uncertainty we do not see a finish line, simply more hurdles to jump.  The present allows us to take a moment to catch our breath, gather strength and appreciate how much ground we’ve already covered.  It is in the present that we are our most powerful.”
